Life in the old dog yet.

"Hello Dad. It's a pleasant evening for a stroll."
Hello Monty. It's good to see you enjoying yourself.

"Oh yes. There's life in the old boy yet."
Pleased to hear it.

"Hmm, now how do I get down. This way ..."

"Or maybe his way ..."
Do you want me to lift you down, Monty ?

"Um, yes please Dad."

Ben Hur

You OK there, Monty ?
"Yes fine thanks Dad. I was just thinking ..."

Thinking what ?
"Well, we should find a few more chariots like mine. Maybe put spikes on the wheels..."

Yessss ?
"We could re-enact that chariot scene from Ben Hur. Yee haa. Giddyup. Woo hoo. Now that would be fun."

"Dad ?"
Yes Daisy ?

"I think you better go easy on those drugs you're feeding Monty."

Annual Christmas Humiliation

Oh it's that joyous time of the year again when we humiliate our pets with reindeer ears, tinsel and baubles.
I'm pleased to say that this year is no exception. Come here you two !

"Dad ! Not funny. Let me out."
No complaining or I'll tie you to the front door with the Christmas wreath.

"Sigh, well at least it's only once a year."
Twice, Daisy-Mae. Don't forget the Easter ears too, hahaha.

Your turn now Monty.
"Yeah, his turn to be humiliated."

"Dad. I'm very sad. I feel like you're mocking me."
Monty, it's all attention. Make the most of it.

"Dad, I'd better get a scratch and a smooch after this !"
Lovely Monty. You can have all the hugs you want.

Well, that was fun. See you all tomorrow.

Lovely walk in the rain.

Alright there, Monty ?
"I guess so, Dad. The rain is refreshing."

My beautiful boy, you look a bit sad.
"Well I was thinking that a scratch might cheer me up, Dad."

Can do. How's this ?
*groans* "Ooh that's lovely."

And this ?
"Mmmm, very nice. I feel better now thanks Dad."

"Hello Dad. Did you buy us a snack ?"

Hello you two. We have roast chook and hot chippies for dinner. And salad too of course...
"Yay, roast chook."
"Yum, hot chippies."

Well, I guess I'll be eating the salad then.

Softly softly.

How're you doing there, Monty ?
Has that injection kicked in ?

"OK, Dad. Not too bad today."
Jolly good.
"In fact I think I'll try a roll. Maybe a slow roll, just gently..."
OK, well take it easy. Softly softly.

Salad for supper.

We're off to the local supermarket to grab a few things for dinner.

"What are we having for supper, Dad ?"
Oh, just salad. Lettuce and tomatoes, that's all.

"Salad ? Woe is me. I'll starve."
"Lettuce ? Tomatoes ? You're joking us Dad !"
Not joking, but I'll add some corn and tuna and cheese just for you.

"Yum, corn and tuna and cheesy-bits !"

Bean bag.

Daisy, shove over and let Monty on the bean bag too.
"No, Dad."

What ?! Why not ?
"Because he keeps peeing everywhere, Dad."

Don't be mean. He can't help it, the poor old diabetic hound.

*snigger* "Well he's peeing on your rug."
What ?! No, Monty ! Stop peeing everywhere !

Don't need creamy potatoes.

Look kiddies, roast chicken for dinner.

"Yum."
"Dad, go get those creamy potatoes too."
Daisy, you little round barrel, you don't need creamy potatoes.

*both looking down* "Well, where is it ?" "Dad, where's the chook ?"
It's for supper kiddies, you'll just have to wait.

Cooking meals for diabetic dogs.

Been to the vet again today, having Monty's blood checked. His blood sugar is high, so more insulin.
I've just spent hours reading on forums on what to feed diabetic dogs.
What do ya think, Monty ? Beef, veggies and brown rice, with a bit of Worcestershire Sauce for flavor.
"Smells good Dad. Just make it a big bowl full please."
Can do, and you can lick the spoon too.
"Yum. Hey, that's not bad, Dad."
Well there's eight meals there, so you'd better like it.

Smelling sweeter.

Poor Monty is off to the vet for the day to have his blood sugar checked.
I let Daisy and Monty out for a quick walk and a wee before heading off to the vet, to find that Daisy had rolled in something absolutely disgusting. So I hosed her down, threw them in the car and raced to the vet.
Monty is asleep in their back room, but Daisy went into their hydrobath !
You smell a lot sweeter now, my little girl.
"Yes Dad. Sorry about that."

Bridesmaids

"What are we doing this arvo', Dad ?"
We're gonna watch Bridesmaids. That should be good for a laugh.

"Yay. That sounds like fun. Can we have chippies too ?"
Oh yes, of course. We must have chippies.

"Can we have cheesy-bits too ?"

Ooooh yes, of course. There will definitely be cheesy-bits.
"Yay."

Dad. We're bored.

"Dad, we're bored. Can we go for a walk?"
Sorry kiddies, but I have to finish cleaning first.
"Clean what, Dad ?"
You fur, Monty's pee, all your old bones, all the grass seeds you just pulled out of your feet, someone's vomit, muddy feet, oh, and whatever it is you found and dragged in yesterday.
"Oh. OK. We'll wait then."

Worse than the disease.

Hmm, it must be 5:30. That pose is Monty's hint that it's time to head home for supper.
Are you hungry, Monty ?
"Starving, Dad. Absolutely starving. It's 5:30, almost 6, and that's my supper time."
Poor Monty. Supper is at 11pm now, timed for your insulin injection.
*groans* "But I'll die of hunger. Honestly Dad, the cure is worse than the disease."

Move, fools !

"One side, knaves."

"Step aside, ye scurvy dogs !"

"Move or I will squash you like a bug !"
What's all that grumbling there, Monty ?

"Oh, nothing Dad. Just feeling like a king after all my drugs and tablets."
