Vale, Daisy Mae. 14 Sep 2015

Poor Daisy Mae passed away today, 14 Sep.
She's been sick for a while, not eating, not walking.
Big thanks to Dr Matt Sanders and all the staff at the Fitzroy Vet for looking after her all these years.

It's a very sad day.
I will miss my little girl.

I've got a sore ear, Dad.

What's the matter, Daisy? You keep scratching at your ear.
"I've got a sore ear, Dad. Make it better please."

Show me ?! Oh yuck. We'd better go see the vet.

Poor Daisy-Mae has a badly infected ear. That means antibiotics, which Daisy doesn't mind because I always wrap them up in roast chicken for her to eat.

Poor girl. Dad will make it better.

Wash and injection day today.

Today is the day for Daisy's arthritis jab, so off to the Fitzroy Vet we go.

Needle is done, so it's into the hydro-bath for stinky mutts.
"Is this really necessary, Dad ?"
Oh yes. You stink.

Look at that. Beautiful and clean.

Daisy's fringe is back to its usual glory.

Dad loves you more when you're clean, Mr Darcy.
"Really, oh well then... I guess it was worth it."

Lovely girl.

Poor Daisy-Mae. Injection today.

Poor little Daisy-Mae is growing old now. She has a monthly Synovan injection to keep her joints working.

"Dad. I don't want an injection, it hurts."
Be brave my little girl, and the nurse will give you a liver treat.

"Ah well, a liver treat eh ? OK then. "
 Very brave.

Fitzroy Veterinary Clinic today. Synovan injection

Poor old Daisy needs a monthly injection for her arthritis. It keeps her moving.

Everybody in the car !

Poor Daisy-Mae. Time to be a pin cushion again.

Waiting for our turn...

Are you ready, Daisy ?
"Yes I guess so Dad."

She's had her jab. Poor girl. Are you OK Daisy-Mae ?
"It stings a bit Dad, but the nurse gave me some liver treats so I don't feel too bad."

Darcy had a liver treat too.

Rolled in something nasty.... again...

Daisy is off to The Vet tomorrow to have her teeth cleaned.

As if to make life really difficult for me, she rolled in something really nasty on the way home. Ick, I couldn't even touch her without gagging.

So.... off to The Vet one day earlier to use their hydro tub.

Poor bucket head

Poor bucket head. Mr Darcy has been chewing on his front left foot. I'm not sure if it's nervous habit or a skin irritation.

Either way, it's off to The Vet for a prescription of antibiotics and cortisone cream, and a bucket for his head.

"Take it off, Dad. It's not fun. The joke is over."
Sorry kiddo, but your foot is covered in cortisone cream and you'll just lick it off.

Time for sleep, kiddies.
"How, Dad ? With this thing on my head ?"

Poor boy. Just for a day or two.

Washing off the plaster dust, and concrete dust, and ....

We're renovating, and at the moment we are plastering and sanding.

Daisy and Darcy are covered in plaster dust and sawdust and concrete dust and other things too terrible to mention. So, in the tub with you two !
The hydro-bath at the Fitzroy Veterinary Clinic is such a wonderful thing.

"Dad, for once I agree with you. It's all a bit much."
Too right Mr Darcy.

Busy busy day. Bath at the Fitzroy Veterinary Clinic.

Busy day today.

Come on Daisy, we have to take more stuff to storage.

"Yes Dad. I'm here to help.

I see you are here to help too, Mr Darcy.
"Oh yes Dad. Where would you be without me ?"

End of a long day and we're going home past the Fitzroy Veterinary Clinic, so into the hydro-bath for you two.
"I think that might be a good idea Dad. I am thick with dust."
"Me too Dad. My hair's a mess."

Taking the stitches out at Fitzroy Veterinary Clinic.

We're down at the Fitzroy Vet with Mr Darcy and Daisy.
Mr Darcy had just been neutered when we saved him from the RSPCA on the Peninsula.

This is your first visit here, boyo. Probably the first of many no doubt.
"Yes. It's very exciting."

Yes, silly thing. Anyway, it's time to take your stitches out.
Poor thing. No knackers now.

"Jolly good. It does itch, you know."

You're such a good boy. You're taking it very well.
"I say, there's lots of interesting creatures here, you know."

"Hey Dad, maybe they can put some brains in when they take those stitches out."
Daisy-Mae !

"Well he's a bit dopey, Dad."
Yeah, just a little bit, but he's young.

Smelling sweeter.

Poor Monty is off to the vet for the day to have his blood sugar checked.
I let Daisy and Monty out for a quick walk and a wee before heading off to the vet, to find that Daisy had rolled in something absolutely disgusting. So I hosed her down, threw them in the car and raced to the vet.
Monty is asleep in their back room, but Daisy went into their hydrobath !
You smell a lot sweeter now, my little girl.
"Yes Dad. Sorry about that."

Dogs with diabetes don't get treats.

My poor Monty. Let me look at you. Look at all those shaved patches and holes poked in you.
"Hello Dad. Yes, but I feel a lot better now."
Are you ready for your needle then ?
"Um, no Dad. It hurts a little."
Here we go then.
"Dad ! I said no, not ready. Maybe a treat first ?"
Too late, and you've had lunch anyway, so no treats.
"Ouch and ouch. What do you mean no treats ?!"
Dogs with diabetes don't get treats.
"Now that hurts."
"What about me, Dad ?"
Well, I can stick a needle in you too Daisy-Mae, if you really feel the need for attention.
"Um, no thanks Dad."

Visiting Monty in hospital at Animal Accident Emergency

We're visiting Monty in hospital. Hello my poor boy.
"Hello Dad. Hello Mum."
So, diabetes eh ? How are you feeling now.
"OK I guess, Dad. I've had a good sleep and don't feel so woozy any more."
How are the staff ? The vets and the nurses ?
"Cute Dad ! I like Juliette, and Louise is lovely, and Doug talks to me."
You know I'm gonna have to inject you twice a day.
"Ouch. Really ?"
Yup. Anyway, let's do a little product placement. Hold still.
"Sigh, yes Dad."
Big thanks to all the staff at Animal Accident Emergency.

Poor Monty has diabetes. Animal Accident Emergency

Here we are at Animal Accident Emergency Hospital.
Poor old Monty is off his food and drinking excessively and as I've just found out, this is because he has diabetes.
"Sorry Dad. I didn't mean too. But I really don't feel well."
My poor boy. We'll fix you up.
Back to waiting. Blood tests and urine tests, then overnight to stabilise the insulin and blood sugar. Poor Monty.

Shave and a haircut.

It's a lovely hot day and you both stink, so it's a haircut and a wash for you both.
"Nooooo. "
Oh yes. Hydro-bath time at Fitzroy Veterinary Clinic.
"No Dad. No wash. Don't want to."
Afraid so, kiddies.
Blimey, look at that water, it's black ! Filthy beasts.
"Dad, it's in my eyes."
"Dad, I'm not very happy now."
Ah, you two almost look clean now.
"Dadddd. Now we'll have to start all over again."
"Dadddd, I've lost all my smell. That took me ages."
Poor kiddies.

Better now.

How's those feet now, Monty?
"Much better thanks Dad. I can walk properly now."

Jolly good. Let's go for a walk then.
"Well, I'd rather have a snack. Can we go for a snack somewhere, seeings as how I've been a good boy and all ? A snack would be nice. "

Hmm. Maybe.
